Customer Review: Does what it says, reasonable price

This product does what it says, and its useful for dual-voltage appliances and 110V electric (*not* electronic) devices that are less than 1600W.
A lot of the negative reviews are from people trying to use the converter incorrectly. The product insert clearly states that it should not be used with dual voltage devices or with devices with electronic features (such as curling irons with auto shut-off, etc.) Perhaps it's an easy mistake to plug in the wrong sort of device, but when you're dealing with something as potentially harmful as electricity, you really should be reading labels!
If you do have a non-dual voltage electric device that needs to plug into 220V power, you need a transformer, which is much heavier and much more expensive. I found this page [...] to be helpful in explaining the differences between a converter and a transformer. I've never needed to buy a transformer, so I don't have one to recommend.
